The goal is to design a pet carrier backpack that provides:
- The best comfort for the pet;
- Easy access to personal items.
We made 4 iterations of backpacks, trying to find the bliss point balancing user friendliness and pets’ comfort.
We considered user scenarios in urban daily life, trying to make it a versatile everyday backpack by letting the user switch the function of the bag with different modulars.
Streamlining the structure, we made it possible for the user to turn on or off the pet compartment by simply unzip or zip up a mesh gusset.
Maximizing the pet’s space, we enlarged and reverse the gusset. The bottom of the bag is wedged towards the back, so that the majority of the weight being carried around is close to the user’s back.

We came up with this trapezoid silhouette concept by studying dogs and cats’ nature. To make travel a pleasant experience for both human and the pets, we are trying to make the bag easy to carry and comfortable for the pets.
